• Personal backpacks and lunchboxes/ lunch bags/ lunch containers must be placed in lockers before homeroom each morning.
• Students will have a passing period before lunch (4th period) to pick up lunchboxes before going to lunch and will place them back in lockers before 5th period.
• With the new protective covers now provided for WCS Student Chromebooks, SSMS students will no longer be required to use a drawstring bag for transporting computers to and from classes.
• A CLEAR DRAWSTRING BAG (BAG MUST BE FULLY TRANSPARENT INCLUDING ALL POCKETS) that can be carried over both shoulders is allowable (and optional) for students to transport ONLY the following items:
  • Chromebook
  • Pencil Pouch
  • Calculator
  • Water Bottle
• All other necessary materials needed for class, (which will only be a binder/composition notebook/Math workbook for math class) are to be transported in students' arms.
• All students have the opportunity to visit their locker between each class period to quickly change out binders/materials if necessary.
• The bag must be a minimum of 12" x 8" for the Chromebook to easily fit inside.
• Maximum size allowed is 17" x 14".
• See examples below. The bags can be easily ordered on Amazon and are very affordable.
• SSMS will not be providing drawstring bags to students this year now that they are optional.

Competition Robotics is new to SSMS this year.  This is a team event in which members work together to master a very challenging “Game” which requires teamwork, communication, engineering, creativity and the ability to overcome frustrating difficulties. 

Qualities/Skills required for the team: 

1. Self Motivated Students - who have the desire to improve their skills. 

2. Team Oriented- Everyone wants to be THE driver, but I need people who WANT the team to succeed over their own personal desires. 

3. Students who have coding experience already. 

4. Students who can have fun WHILE working hard. 

5. Students who will commit to regularly attending Team meetings.

What is required of team members?

1. Attend Weekly meetings

2. There is a $75 required fee per person

3. Participate in fundraising

4. Attend after school and some weekend events throughout the year. Usually 1-2 times per month. (These events will be at other school sites)

What will the next steps be in the forming of a team?

1. Pick up an application from me (date TBD, check announcements)
2. The application will require you to obtain recommendations from teachers or prior coaches.  
3. Depending on the number of applicants, we may hold tryouts for the team. Those tryouts would be held after school at Spring Station. 
4. The MAXIMUM number of students I will keep would be 20. It could be less.

What would Tryouts look like?

1. Application/Teacher Recommendation Written portion
2. Driving portion: applicants will have 60 seconds to complete a task. 
3. Coding portion: complete a coding task in 25 minutes or less. 
4. Building portion: complete a task in 20 mins following design constraints.
